It's Not Enough for Food to Just Be Sustainable. It Also Needs to be Healthy

Last week, Food Navigator posted a story about Mintel's 2024-2025 Global Sustainability Report. The main takeaway is that consumers don't just want sustainable products. They want sustainable products that also don't impact health and allow for self-preservation.

Ultimately, "Sustainable products have to win the health battle" says Richard Cope, senior trends consultant at Mintel and report author. People have a big demand and need for a balanced diet and that's something that not only hasn't changed, but is growing over time.

At Oobli, health and sustainability (along with taste) are the two most important aspects of our food ethos. Not only does food need to taste great, but we deserve to indulge in our natural cravings and sweet tooth without negative impact to our metabolism. Sweet proteins do just that. These large-molecule building blocks (as amino acids) taste like sugar but have no impact on blood sugar, insulin or the gut microbiome.

And the same goes with climate and sustainability. Our process of fermenting nature-identical sweet proteins means we save massive amounts of land, water and carbon.

So it's not just enough for food (especially packaged food) to be just one thing. Consumers want the full package: health, taste and sustainability. And that should be the standard.
